Life and bumper cars

The relationship between life and bumper cars

Life is like bumper cars.  You take a few knocks along the way, smile; life still goes on. - Yip Pei Shan

I wa playing bumper cars at Luna Park, Sydney, Australia, a few days ago and came up with this bump of wisdom.  Everyone was all smiles and yet they were enduring hard knocks from people they know or did not know.  We were all confined at a certain point in time and space, yet it was filled with positive feelings, fun and enjoyment.  It’s an excellent attitude to take with us back into our reality of living.  For what is reality but a construction of our minds?  Let us smile and live life with optimism, fun and enjoyment!

Words of wisdom: How wealthy are you?

What is wealthiness? Shan’s perspective on wealth in the new year

The real measure of your wealth is how much you would be worth if you lost all your money. - Unknown

This is indeed food for thought.  At this special point in time with the old year moving on and the new year moving in, it is an ideal time for self reflection and setting new goals for the new year.   In our digi-consumer society, money may have become one of the yardsticks to judge who we really are.

I like the implications behind this quote.  How much are you worth in terms besides money?  What sort of terms are you worth in?  How wealthy are you?

Money may be an important commodity, however, it is not the end-all.  Wealth comprises not only money, but also happiness.  What is happiness to you?  Love?  Recognition?  Doing the things you love?  Looking good?  Fulfillment?  Fame?   Courage?  Confidence?  How wealthy are you, really?

Wishing you a Shanshiney New Year, and every happiness!

Words of wisdom: Decisions is living

The logic makes us intellectual, the emotion makes us human.  Making major decisions is living. - Yip Pei Shan

This is an excerpt from Left brain versus right brain? Shan’s take on logic and emotion.  Making decisions are making choices.  Choosing what we want, choosing what we need, choosing what we desire.  It is so wonderful!  We are intellectual humans gifted with choice!

Left brain versus right brain? Shan’s take on logic and emotion

Left brain versus right brain?  Logic versus emotion?

Logic is governed by the left brain, and emotion, by the rightbrain (Damasio, Grabowski, Frank, Galaburda, & Damasio, 1994).  As both make up the entire human thinking, there is oftentimes conflicting interests - dilemmas, so to speak.

Logic and emotion play a pivotal role in decision-making.  I hear many people, and even myself, agonise over the many decisions we make in our lives.  How can we make the best decision?  What is the best?  How can we decide to decide?

Logic and emotion make great slaves, but not great masters.  This is my opinion on how we can make our best decisions.

Words of wisdom: Opportunities, not obstacles

Optimists convert stumbling blocks to stepping stones - W. Howard Wright, Jr.

I like this.  Looking at the glass half full, and not half empty.  Obstacles are not obstacles.  They are opportunities, steps to lead us to where we want to be.
