Gems are found in little nooks and crannies!  Craving for some hot and sour noodles in soup, we stopped over at The Asian Kitchen in Vivocity.  Led by their zany restaurant manager, I have been impressed with their superb service and heart-warming smiles since June this year.  After a protracted search for electronic equipment, it was great to dine in a place with happy vibes.

Ka Yau, Mr. tender loving care, was the man who made our dining extraordinarily pleasant!  When I ordered my hot and sour noodles in soup, he recommended adding more chilli padi (little red chillis) to heighten the heat factor.  Upon seeing my hesitation, he suggested serving me the chilli padi on a separate dish, to add in as I liked.

Throughout, he was attentive, kind and polite.  When my noodles arrived, I was presented with a spoon that was as large as a ladle.  I did not look forward to having a locked jaw maneuvering this unwieldy ladle, so I asked Ka Yau to give me a decent-sized spoon.  For some reason, he looked perplexed at my request, so I explained to him, “The spoon is too big.  I have a small mouth.”

Immediately, he acceded to my request with a broad smile that developed into a huge, voracious laughter.  I have not seen a waiter laugh so hilariously at work!  After bringing me a smaller spoon, he cautioned me not to scald myself, as I would be dipping the metal spoon into hot soup.  I was touched by his concern for a diner in his restaurant.  Ka Yau continued to smile broadly whenever he caught our attention.  Smiles and laughter are indeed heart-to-heart connections, lighting up the hearts of everyone who is willing to receive it.  I have captured one of his Shanshine Smiles on film.

With his exuberant smiles, deep, sincere laughter; and caring nature,  he is the epitome of service.  I salute you, Ka Yau, Mr. TLC (tender loving care)!

Aishah’s shanshiney smile inspired me to create the above proverb last year in March!  After some time, I have managed to get a photo together with this sweet lady!  Look forward to her gorgeous smile and excellent customer service when you visit the Bishan MRT Station’s ticketing office!

How did yesterday’s actions go for me?

I had a whale of a time laughing with a video of  my friend’s standup comedy performance!  A good friend encountered a nasty client yesterday, so we shared some laughs over Russell Peter and a funny joke!  Go for the funnies!

The best things happen when you least expect it! I was attending a party at Gallery Hotel and was lured by the pretty flutist playing beautiful music at the restaurant on the second level. Mr. exceptional extraordinaire, Caron Ong, appeared immediately with a shanshiney smile and asked if I would like to dine.  I declined while expressing my wish to listen to the flutist.  Unperturbed, Caron invited us to take a seat to listen.  This was the first time I went to a restaurant without ordering anything, and had the brightest smiles given generously and willingly!  Not only from Caron, but from the other service crew as well as the pretty flutist!

Having listened to a couple of pieces played by the flutist, we ventured to leave.  However, Mr. exceptional extraordinaire, Caron, not only bade us farewell with another shanshine smile, he gave us beautiful calendars on the house!  Exceptional service from this Shanshine Smiler indeed!

Generous bright shanshine smiles, beautiful flutist, gorgeous calendars, I’m going back there next time not just to have an audio and visual feast, but to have a gastronomic delight!  I am psychosomatically convinced the food there is great already, thanks to Caron and his wonderful team at Gallery Hotel, 1 Nanson Road, Robertson Quay.

Another Shanshine Smiler is Peggy, gracing the fort of Pin Si @ AMK Hub with her mega memory service!  I am impressed with Peggy’s great recall of my favourite dishes, drinks and pet peeves from the very first visit.  I remembered asking for a change of drinks as the first drink had a tiny speck of dirt.  With no questions asked, my drink was changed by one of the many wonderful waiters there.  With her observant service and friendly smiles, Peggy took the effort to ask whether the changed Almond Milk was to my liking.

Remember this proverb I created in March this  year?  I have been noticing so many beautiful smiles, I am going to make it a point to compliment the Shanshine Smilers in Singapore!

I’m going to get hold of Aishah’s shanshiney smile to light up the hearts of many more!

I was bowled over by Chin Hong, another Shanshine Smiler this evening at Bakerzin, United Square.  Impeccable service with a sweet and sincere disposition, Chin Hong has been with Bakerzin for two weeks.  An Electrical and Electronic Engineering student from the Singapore Polytechnic, this is his second part-time job, with his first part-time job at a furniture outlet at Sungei Road Gardens during the weekends.

I salute you, Chin Hong, Mr. sweet sincere smile!

This proverb was inspired by Aishah, the ticketing lady at the Bishan MRT Station, Singapore, who flashed one of the most gorgeous smiles I have seen in my life!  It was definitely the best shanshiney smile of my day, warming my heart and feeling a tickly tingly feeling all the way to my toes!
