Free Dramaturgically yours… series: Too big? Too small? (Unanimous Best Interpretive Reader!!!)
Kuo Pao Kun’s The coffin is too big for the hole – edited my way
My beloved friends,
After sharing my personalised funnies, and the most recent instalment of the Dramaturgically yours series, Cynthia’s sober! Cheers! (with photos!), it’s time for more satirical humour with Kuo Pao Kun’s The coffin is too big for the hole.
Kuo Pao Kun, born in Hebei, China, in 1939, was awarded in 1989, the Singapore Cultural Medallion – the highest honour bestowed on an artist by the Singapore government each year.
The coffin is too big for the hole was Kuo’s first English play written in 1984. It was also his strongest entry into the socially and culturally complex world of bi-lingualism and bi-culturalism in Singapore.
The fourth (and second last) of the series, this rendition promises to transport you to the morphing psyche of a filial grandson, and a close-felt identification with hard-walled bureaucracy.
Rock with the satirically grave dilemmas of Too big? Too small? Details as follows:

My beloved friends,
It’s been a while since my last act with D. H. Lawrence’s Snake – A triumph of style and idiom, and Roald Dahl’s Matilda – interpreted MY way. I’m back again with a vengeance! This time, not only have I taken up the challenge of acting out a monodrama, but that of writing and directing this!
Weaving from storytelling with Roald Dahl’s Matilda to wild imaginations with D. H. Lawrence’s Snake, Cynthia’s sober! Cheers! brings to our attention growing societal issues that pervade the very fabric of life – our social relationships.
With a dry wit and a love for all things expressive, Yip Pei Shan is a creative mitochondria (energy house) behind her writings to date.
I am my own favourite author! – Yip Pei Shan
Come, ready, armed with your imagination and let your hair down with my characterisation of Cynthia and what she has to share with you in an original monodrama written, directed and acted by Shan! Details as follows:

- Venue: New Millennium Advanced Toastmasters, Cairnhill Community Club, Level 2 Conference room, 1 Anthony Road, Singapore

First time DOUBLE WIN!
Double the fun! Winners of the International Speeches and Table Topics contests 2010!
It was double the fun winning in both contests! I enjoyed every minute of it – someone even said I was glowing! What made my wins wonderfully delicious was the high calibre and sheer number of my competitors! I was set for success with the huge and supportive audience that excited and inspired me to share my message!
A very big thank you to my wonderful friends and supporters – your presence and ardent support has been a great source of comfort and inspiration to me. Thank you!
I treasure the intangible more than the tangible. The tangible trophies merely represent the more precious intangible recognition, love and admiration. I quote from my last year’s win,
“Remember my message. Trophies will fade, but the message I share with you, I want it to be imprinted in your hearts and gain inspiration when you need it.”
Last but not least, a very big thank you to my superb mum who has stood by me all these moments; the Universe who is with me; and my beloved late Grandfather – this is for YOU! Thank you!
